Over the last year I have been privileged to be part of +Save our Planet - Plant a Tree project (which is a +The Success Academy Properties initiative.) Basically the project is to oversee the planting of 150,000 indigenous trees in Pretoria which has been donated by our CEO. We have primarily involved school children with the planting process.
How it works is that we identify a school which is in the proximity of +The Success Academy Properties office parks and then on an agreed day we have what we call a "tree ceremony" where we give each child in the school a gift wrapped tree that they then plant at home and care for to maturity. It's been a truly moving experience! To date the project has given 18,000 children a tree-gift!
It has also been very interesting to observe the massive difference between schools. Some are over-the-top enthusiastic and at others we struggle to get buy-in! And in almost every case the difference has come down to the attitude of the leadership at the school.
For example, the project at the schools has a feature to it that not only does each child and staff member receive a tree, but the school can also receive a 50Lt tree for every 10 parents that register on the http://saveourplanet.org.za website with a special code that is provided for each school.
The schools where the leadership is enthusiastic and excited about the project and have placed a high priority on developing a strong relationships with parents over time, the results have been phenomenal. We recently visited a small (in comparison to others) school with 850 pupils and yet this school has out-performed virtually all others and to date have qualified to receive almost 40 50Lt trees!
Do you agree that in almost all areas of life the speed of the leader determines the pace of the pack?
What say you?
