The 2011 Feather Awards took place on Thursday and as usual it was another inspirational event!
The winners of each category were:
Kim Meredith: Business Icon and Entrepreneur
Marina Coleman: Arts Culture and Heritage
Patricia Louise van der Merwe: Heroine
Each of these woman have a truly remarkable story as did all the finalists in each category. I find the incredible stories that get told at each years awards truly inspirational, especially to see the contribution so many woman are making to make South Africa a better place.
It's difficult to single out any of the remarkable stories each of the winners have to tell. Whether it's Kim Meredith's tenure as Managing Director of Spectrum Solutions and Chief Executive Officer of The Dealmaker Programmes Company, or Marina Coleman's amazing HIV & AIDS education programme, or Lindsay Ann Ziehl who runs the only shelter for domestic violence in Port Elizabeth or Patricia Louise van der Merwe who has tirelessly campaigned for humane animal farming in South Africa.
The event was opened by 8-year-old Ying-Shan who also has a truly remarkable story of her own:
